Digit

Digits are the single numbers used to represent values in math. 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 are used in different combinations and repetitions to represent all the values in math. Any of the ten numbers from 0 to 9 can be represented by a symbol known as a digit.

The smallest digit is 0 and the largest digit is 9 

 

Two-digit Numbers : If tenth place digit of a number  is X and unit place digit of a number is Y, then two-digit  number would be (10X + Y) .  

n - digit Greatest Numbers In n-digit greatest  numbers, 9 is written as many time as the value of n.  

Example 5 digit greatest number = 99999  

3. n-digit Lowest Numbers In n-digit lowest  numbers, first of all 1 is written and after that (n −1)  times zeroes.  

e.g. 5 digit lowest number = 10000

 

Example 

1. Find the largest and smallest number of 2, 8, 0, 9

  • Smallest Number = 2089
  • Largest Number = 9820

 

Natural numbers

1, 2, 3, 4 ........ etc. are normal numbers. They are used to count an object. 0 is not a normal number because 0 is not counted as an object when counting objects.

The set of normal numbers is expressed by the sign “N”.

For example, N - 1, 2, 3, 4 ...... etc.

The smallest natural number is - “1.


Whole numbers

All natural numbers with 0 are integers, so 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 ...... are integers.

The set of integers is denoted by the symbol “I”.

The smallest Whole numbers is - “0”


Intergers Number

All Natural numbers and negative of natural numbers with zero make the set of Integers. 

Symbol - "Z"

E.g - ............., - 4, - 3, - 2, - 1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ........................

a. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, .............. are called positive integer numbers.

b. - 1. - 2, - 3, - 4, - 5, ................ are called negative integer numbers.

c. '0' is neither positive nor negative.


Prime Numbers

Primes are numbers that cannot be divisible by any other number except 1 and that number itself. The product of the prime number is 1 and that number itself.

Examples: 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, ................. etc. 

Note -

2 is the smallest Prime Number.

1  is not a Prime or Compound number.

 

Co - Prime Number

Co-prime numbers (or relatively prime numbers) are two or more numbers that have no common factor other than 1. In other words, the greatest common divisor (GCD) of two co-prime numbers is 1.

 


Composite Number

Numbers that can be divisible by 1 or another number are called composite numbers. Compound numbers have more than 2 factors.

Examples: 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15 ............. and so on.

4 is the smallest composite number.

1 is neither prime nor composite number.

Even Number

Natural numbers divisible by 2 are even numbers. 2 is the smallest Even number.

Difference between two even no is  2

Examples 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 ………………………….


Odd Number

Natural numbers that are not divisible by 2 are odd numbers.

Difference between two even no is  2

1 is the smallest odd Number.

Examples : 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, ............................. 

 

Note : Even and Odd numbers identitify

1. Even : Last digit of number = 0, 2, 4, 6, 8

2. Odd : Last digit of number = 1, 3, 5, 7, 9

3. Even no x Odd no = Even No

4. Even no. x Even No. = Even No.

5. Even No. + Odd No. = Odd No

6. Even No - Odd No = Odd No

7. Odd No. - Even No. = Odd No

7. Even no. + Even No. = Even No.

8. Odd No + Odd No = Even No


Rational number

A rational number can always  be represented by a fraction of the form  p/q  , where p and  q are integers, and q ≠ 0.

E.g : 12, 35, 710 ............ etc.

Equivelent Rational Number 

An equivalent rational number is another rational number that represents the same value or fraction as the original. Rational numbers are numbers that can be expressed as the quotient or fraction p/q, where p and q are integers and q ≠ 0


 

Irrational Numbers

An irrational number cannot be expressed in the form p/q, where p and q are integers, q ≠ 0.

irrational numbers, which give only an approximate answer in the form of a fraction or decimal number.

Example 40.2352654............................, π


 

Successor Number

successor number of any natural number, just next natural number is called Successor number of that number. In any natural number, if 1 is added, we get the successor number

Examaple :

Successor number of 2000 = 2000 + 1 = 2001 

Successor number of 50 = 50 + 1 = 51


 

Predecessor Number

Predecessor Number Of any natural number, just  before natural number is called predecessor number of  that number. In any natural number, if 1 is subtracted,  we get the predecessor number.  

Example

Predecessor number of 20 is 20 - 1 = 19.   

Predecessor number of 2000 = 2000 - 1  = 1999.

Equivelent Rational Number
